more energy
for your city

Accomplishing the energy transition is one of the most ambitious goals of this century and we will not be able to achieve it without involving businesses and private households on a decentralized level. Regarding solar energy there is often a lack of clarity about the actual potential and the cost-benefit ratio. Solar Potential Maps can help solving this issue and bring clarity. A Solar Potential Map is an interactive map showing the suitability for generating solar energy of each rooftop in a city or region. It calculates the amount of solar radiation and the shadowing situation and combines both to an easy to understand statement. The attached profitability calculation helps to determine the ideal number of panels and shows how profitable a solar system would be. Such maps are usually published online and integrated in websites of cities or municipalities. A Solar Potential Map can be realized quickly and is a major contribution to bring solar energy forward. It provides information and clarification and helps to build trust in new technologies. It causes a knock-on effect and the increasing number of installations supports local trade.

You can find all our Solar Potential Maps in the map on the right.

WE WILL GLADLY SPEAK TO YOU ABOUT THE AVAILABILITY OF DATA FOR YOUR CITY!

Why using our Map?

Easy operation

Thanks to intuitive user guidance even unexperienced users without any previous knowledge can compose a solar plant that matches their individual needs and energy consumption.

Individual configuration

The assistant automatically suggests a reasonable plant size for the given requirements. By refining parameters users can plan their individual plant that exactly matches their personal needs.

Precise calculation

Our simulation of the solar radiation matches a longterm (long-term) average of empirically raised climate data with an accuracy of 98,8% – a valid basis for further calculations.

Efficient process

We developed our own automized (automated) process and our own software – that makes our products independent, time-efficient and cost-effective.

High flexibility

The results of our solar potential analysis can be exported in all common geodata formats to be published in accordance with EU guidelines. That way the extracted data can be used flexibly for different purposes.

Long-term partnership

We constantly update and adjust our products to the present conditions and make sure you always use the latest version. We believe in a long-term partnership and are always open to suggestions and ideas for further developments from our customers.

Our Cadastres are Special Because

The interactive map: Information, clarity and easy usage

The interactive map is the starting point for the extensive features that a Solar Potential Map offers. It gives users a quick and easy to understand first impression about their building‘s suitability. The interactive map includes different layers with various views. The suitability for photovoltaic or solar thermal energy is illustrated with different colours. Another layer displays the intensity of solar radiation on roof surfaces. A third layer identifies different parts of a roof that are suitable for the installation either a photovoltaic or a solar thermal plant. By clicking on a building a window will open that holds further information about the roof‘s suitability and potential. For all suitable buildings the detailed configuration can be entered.

Publishing the results

The success and efficiency of a solar potential map depends not only on precise results but is also crucially influenced by its presentation and usability. For that reason we pay special attention to the implementation, design and usability of our solar potential maps. We offer our customers an internet portal with an individual design that contains not only the complete application but also further information about the technical background as well as links and advice on how to realize a solar plant. Users find everything they need to know about planning their own solar plant in one place. In addition to publishing the Solar Potential Map within an internet portal you can also integrate it into your own website. The results are also exported to Excel sheets and shapefiles which allow you to reuse and combine them with other data sets. We also provide the service of enabling the publication of the results compliant with EU-guidelines, with every Solar Potential Map. To evaluate the success of your Solar Potential Map you have free access to the statistics of your portal page.

The plant configuration: Extensive features and intuitive operation

By answering questions users are guided through the configuration step by step. In the end they receive an optimized concept for generating solar energy with their roof that perfectly matches their individual requirements. At every step users can either use the preset values or type in individual information. That way users with no or little previous knowledge get valid results just as quickly as users with profound knowledge. Switching back and forth between the single steps is possible at any time without losing any information.

Module placer

The module placer enables you to place modules on our interactive card and adapt them to your individual needs. Therefore, the user can choose between different module types out of our data base and can place those individually on the rooftop. Through the submission of the constructed configuration those data can be implemented into the economic calculation. Tilt, orientation and gaps of the planned installation can be also individually adjusted, which makes it easier for companies to give their customers a detailed consulting.

Benefit Calculator

The benefit calculator helps in defining the profitability of photovoltaic installations. Through submitting individual requirements information our calculator quotes amortisation period as well as yield within a chosen time span. You can individually determine certain calculation parameters like building costs, power demand, power costs, maintenance charges or terms of a possible funding, so the results of our calculation are adapted most possible to your needs. We always work on our tools and adapt them regularly to political and economic changes.

technical input

Solar Potential Maps are based on 3D surface data. Our specific software automatically converts common laser scanning data into a 3D-model and subsequently combines them with roof or building boundaries, either automatically retrieved or extracted from local land use cadasters. For most cities or municipalities the required data is already available and can be used for a small fee or even for free.

Shadowing

The amount of solar radiation taken from empiric weather data is blended with local circumstances. We also simulate shadows from trees, nearby buildings, roof constructions and topographical constraints because shadow areas have a strong negative impact on a solar plant‘s performance.

Our Software

Our software processes computerized data and calculates the energy hour- and day wise, which is collected from each rooftop. Out of the yearly insolation we can calculate how much power each photovoltaic installation can capture.

Accurate results

Our simulation of the solar radiation matches a long-term average of empirically raised climate data with an accuracy of 98,8% – a valid basis for further calculations.

HOW A SOLAR potential map is built up?

The foundation of the solar potential analysis are laser scan data from flights over the city.

We build an simplified model of houses and the surrounding objects (e.g. trees), so rooftop areas can be recognized in a next step.

Insolation as well as shadowing are incorporated in the calculations. Extremely shadowed areas are identified as not suitable for photovoltaic installations. For all of the other rooftop areas the amount of insolation is calculated.

Insolation is not the same as yield: The grade of efficiency (the ability of the modules to convey solar insolation into electricity) and condition of the used components is going to determine the amount of electric energy which is gained and therefore the financial revenue as well.
